Easter Gift

Hello!

Every once in a while I get the urge to do something I've seen someone else do.  A friend posted a project on Facebook that I KNEW my sister would love and that I could handle re-creating.
I started with a piece of plumbing and added a layer of white primer paint.

Then a couple coats of the shimmer purple paint my sister selected.  This was her Easter present this year and I was right.... she loved it!

S is For...

Sunflowers!

Hi!  The challenge for the next two weeks at Quirky Crafts Challenge is Something beginning with S... sea, sun, sunflowers etc.  Bugaboo is sponsoring this round and I went with the obvious... Sunflower.  I have decided to make a set of tags, one for each month to decorate my space and this image is the first to be used for this project.

I started with a large tag 4.25 x 8.5", large enough to give me room to play and use my favourite things.  I took the top layer of napkins, tore them and adhered them to the tag using matte medium.  I cut another tag the same size out of printed acetate by Creative Imaginations. I also wanted to use this flower I picked up at the re-use centre.

The image was printed and coloured using markers, then matted with a metal 4" square mat by Making Memories.  I disassembled the flower and re-adhered it to the top right using glue dots to make sure it stayed stuck and to flatten it a bit too.  The metal stamped August tag is from my stash and it was perfect for this project.  Leaf eyelets, also by Making Memories, were used to attach the metal tag to the paper tag.

Finishing off the project, I used oval metal clips by Stampin' Up to help draw the eye and to hold the layers together.  I like the layered depth to this piece!

Stripes Challenge

Hello!

I have been trying to organise myself to join more challenges.  One of the blogs I follow is A Day for Daisies.  She has such nice images!  Anyway, she put up a challenge to use one of her images and do something with Stripes!  I am not fond of stripes, but I managed to make a fun card following her theme.

I started with the free image she has on her site for this challenge, a cute birthday froggy.  I coloured him with markers, trying to use the same colours as on my striped paper.  Spellbinders Labels 28 was used to cut out the image and the mat.  The paper for the mat is by Authentique.

The Happy Birthday greeting is by Stampin' Up.  I wanted to use the same striped paper, but the greeting wouldn't have shown up against the bright pattern.  So I used the old trick of placing a layer of vellum on top of the printed paper to tone it down a bit.

Mixed Media Attempt 2

Hey there!

You have until Staurday to enter in this Mixed Media challenge at Quirky Crafts Challenge!  I have been leaning how to do some mixed media for the past two years, but have been afraid to put them in an art book.  :) SO I took this challenge as a chance to use my virgin books.
I started by using 3 ranger paint daubers and making a border all around my paper edge.
I tore and inked the edge of a gelli printed page I did in the last 6 months.  Used a Gelli Plate, acrylic paint, plastic stencils, a paint comb and some rubber mats for texture. This I adhered to the base page.
This time I printed the image from Squigglefly "Venus Has Arrived" onto wihite tissue paper.  This I applied to a piece of aluminum foil covered with painted tissue and washi tape.  I used matte medium to 'glue' it on.  I used my Spellbinders Label die to cut it out once dry, then edged it with a permanent gold pen.  The image I coloured using Zig Winks paint pens.
Before adding the image I stamped the background with various fish stamps I have and StazOn ink.  A scrap piece of screen in the top left corner to look like fishing net is tucked under the focal image.  Finish touch is a greeting stamped in 4 heated layers of duo embossing powder.

Hugs!

Mixed Media Mayhem

And computer mayhem too!
Sorry for the late posting... Internet jam this afternoon!

This week at Quirky Crafts Challenges Mixed Media Mahem is the theme and Squigglefly gave us some great images to play with! I chose Stacked Owls and immediately thought of a quote I read lately.  So I took out my art book and played around with some of my lonely supplies!   This book is 8x10 (mistakenly called it 9x12) made of hard pressed watercolour paper.  I started with various watercolour based sprays and stencils to give some depth.  Then stamped some books along the bottom left and right.  The Stacked Owls image was just perfect for this page, at the top of the books on the right.  I used the tape transfer technique to place the image onto my page with clear gesso.  The final stencil was inked with dye ink and the quote is written in my own hand with a Sharpie.
I've got to get into these supplies more often!  I've gotten rusty with my techniques...  What kind of creative fun have you been up to lately?

More Spice Girls

Hello!

This is a reminder post for the Spice Girls Challenge at Quirky Crafts Challenges.  This is being sponsored by The Cutting Cafe.  She sent us colured and uncoloured images labelled 'All About Girls' and 'You Color My World'.  This time I took a little from each collection!
I started with a folded sheet of 8.5x11" duplex (black/white) cardstock.  So the finished card size is 5.5x8.5".  3 copies of the pink coloured background was printed and cut out to layer and make a background. I actually cheated a bit and coloured two purple sections on each panel black with a sharpie in order to tie it in better with the other elements.  My circle cutter was used to cut out the Sweet 16 and 100% Girl panels.  A 3/4" circle punch was used to punch out the black circle affirmations.  I fussy cut the nail polish :)  Then it was just a matter of layering and adhering!  Hope the young lady who receives it appreciates it!

St. Patrick's Day and International Quilting Day!

Woohoo! Time for some green Quilts! LOL! Not often that these two days land on the same weekend. I finally finished one of my UFOs (unfinis...
