I Know How To Crochet!!!!

Hello!

And you are thinking, "SO?"
I am a visual learner.  Sometimes I can follow instructions to do something, but I usually need pictures, and even better is if I am shown.  I tried last summer to learn to crochet.  The books and pictured were just NOT doing it for me.  Why not use You Tube???  I didn't think of it.  So I found this project on the internet and my mom was visiting for 3 weeks, so I begged her to help me with it.
See that look of concentration???  It took me 6 hours to figure out the first one!

See the computer screen?  Yes, we are trying to knit flat Mickey mouse heads.  Between You Tube and this lady's blog: http://dizzneemomma.com/2012/01/crocheted_mickey_medallions/ we managed it.  I want to make a pile of these for a swap I am doing next year.  This blue one is the first one I did in 6 hours!

I am now down to an hour and a half for each completed head.  This is how big they are in relation to my hand.  I know some of you can crochet faster, but I am still learning!

I've sent these off to a Make a Wish family who is taking a Disney Cruise soon.  The initials are for each of the 3 kids.  I attached magnets to the back of these so they can stick on their stateroom door and then when they get back home.

Bye for now!

Using my Embossing Skills

Hello!

This time on My Heart Pieces we have been challenged to use either dry or wet embossing.  I gotta admit I do not use these tools as often as I should.  They give such a nice texture to an otherwise blah piece and sometimes gives it just the punch it needs too!  I used Prianka's image called 'Aria' for this challenge and used watercolour crayons and a water brush to colour in the images.

This first card is a green 4.5x6" top fold card using shimmer paper from DCWV.  The pink metal is from the pastel pack of Spellbinders Premium Craft Foils.  I ran the foil through Spellbinders Hearts Embossing Folder, then cut it down to 4.25x5.75" as a layer on the front of the card.  One of the scraps I flattened with a ruler and then ran it through an embossing border 'With Love' from Cuttlebug, then matted it with simple white cardstock.  The image was cut out using Spellbinders' Labels 3 dies.  The other scrap of embossed metal was used inside the card as I couldn't waste this pretty stuff!  Oh ya!  Accented the 'love' panel with 3 adhesive pearls from the dollar store!

My second card has 2 different type of embossing...  I started with a 5x7 green card and stamped/embossed Stampin' Up mini flowers all around the edge with kaleidoscope embossing powder.  I cut out the image with Spellbinders' Label 8 and then ran it though my Cuttlebug in an SU! folder.  To accent the dry embossing more, I ran a pale dye ink over the embossing.  I cut out the mat using the same die set and a piece of alcohol ink technique done on glossy cardstock.  I wrapped a ribbon from my stash and finished it off with a crocheted flower and heart tipped pin, also from my stash.

Digi Darla Garden Time!

Happy Earth Day Everyone!
Once again I got creative and worked on a challenge that Digi Darla had last week.  I didn't get a chance to get them photographed and blog ready in time, but wanted to share with you anyway...

I used one of the series of Sunbonnet Girls that she has and coloured them all with my watercolour crayons and water brush.  I also used a button flower image of hers to accent some of the cards too.

I used a page out of a magazine I was recycling to use as the background paper.  The piece I cut out was 4 3/4x 6" and matted it onto bright yellow cardstock then adhered it to a white 5x6.5" card front.
I traced the yellow mat with a black pen.  The image was cut out using Spellbinders' Wonky Squares dies and I cut out the mattes with the same.  Added three of the button flowers as accents.

I cut out the image using Spellbinders' Labels 2 dies.  The mat is resist kraft paper from Tim Holtz.  I used a button flower as accent here as well.  The card is 5x6.5" covered with scraps of cardstock torn and layered.  Sorry, I cannot remember who made the paper!

I've been playing with acrylic paint lately and saving my scrap paper to use as backgrounds for my cards. This piece is 4 3/8 x 5 3/4" matted onto a yellow card 5x6.5" and placed onto a white card front of the same size.  After I coloured the image, I used Spellbinders' Labels 3.  The strip down the left side is another scrap from water colouring.  The final touch is 3 more button blossoms to accent in the bottom left.
Remember the magazine page?  The title of the article was MOSAICS.  So I cut out the letters individually and used the rest of the page scraps to create the background of this last card.  I played around with the letters to get "MISS U" (in this case the 'c' became a 'u')  This time I only used part of the coloured image and cut it out using Spellbinders' Labels 22 dies.  Once matted, I added it to the top of the card.

Springtime

Spring is here!!!
Well... almost.
We are at another challenge for My Heart Pieces.  This week it's Spring or Easter that Priyanka has challenged us to create.  As Easter has passed, I decided to focus on Spring with the image called "Window".  I coloured all the images with watercolour crayons and a water brush.

The first card I created is 5 x 6.5".  I cut out the image, mat and title box using my Spellbinder Labels 8.  After colouring the image, I used a Bic white out pen to make the fence and window box white.  I used Tim Holtz Kraft resist paper for the mat and the background paper (4.75" x 6.25") is from Walmart.  The flower border is a ribbon I picked up at the sewing and craft show last fall.  The 'Thank You' stamp is an old one from Stampin' Up!

The second card I created I decided to make 3D.  I coloured in the image + the fence/grass and birds of another image.  Then I fussy cut these extra bits and pop-dotted them onto the first image.  Then I placed it in a 5x7" Magenta window card.  I used a paper scrap to make the accent corners. Then I used Dazzle Versamark to stamp 'Spring' by Hero Arts all around the mat.

My last card is something I do not do too often... A dimensional card.  It's a simple half fold with a 6x6 panel glued to the top.  The image and mat were cut using my newest Spellbinders Labels 28.  The flowers really looking like pansies to me and so inspired me to use this pansy ribbon I've been saving for a while.  On the inside I used a scrap of the brown paper and more of the ribbon plus a Stampin' Up! red rose embellishment to use as a stopper for the card in its open position.  The brown flower on the front is from my stash.  The Spring quote on the inside is from Hero Arts.

Till next time!  Hugs!

St. Patrick's Day and International Quilting Day!

Woohoo! Time for some green Quilts! LOL! Not often that these two days land on the same weekend. I finally finished one of my UFOs (unfinis...
